Companions (After Li Po)

We never grow tired of each other,
my shadow and I.

We welcome the sun as companion,
a party of three friends.

We walk and sit together,
imbibe sweet spring air,

savor summer heat,
toast fall's blaze of leaves,

mourn the shortness of winter light.
My shadow and I journey 10,000 miles

under the sun.
My shadow retires at the end of day.

I sit on the bench in a dark garden,
my cap beside me.

The moon hides behind clouds.
Shadows of shadows.
