Brave Bird

Sitting in the back yard
sharing with birds on their branches
the last daylight hours
of an almost spring sun.
One step into shadow is cold.

A junco flies under my outstretched legs
and the plant stand next to me
like a daring stunt pilot flying under river bridges.
Bravo, little bird.
What exuberance.
What a celebration of spirits rising in spring.
I'm with you.

Now bud the weeping katsura and crepe myrtle.
Daphne flowers purple.
Flying dragon displays yellow buds
between its long sharp thorns.

Bravo katsura.
Bravo myrtle.
Bravo daphne.
Bravo dragon.
Bravo, bravo.
